Find the right drying strategy for your barrier coatings

During the last decade, there has been a large focus on developing new barrier functionalities in the Paper & Board industry. We have worked with most of the major P&B Groups to suggest & implement customised drying solutions for each specific case.

Specialty coatings and barrier coatings behave differently compared to traditional graphical coatings and may require a specific drying approach.

Products Suited for Difficult Coatings

We have two products which are particularly suited  for difficult coatings:

UniDryer® with alternated IR and air drying (usually gas IR)
DryMaster™, electrical IR with precise power control and integrated temperature control

Each of these products allow to achieve the following requirements:

Quick start of drying immediately after the application of the coating
Even distribution of drying throughout the coating layer
Gentle drying without reaching too high temperatures on the coat surface by a smart and adaptive power control along the drying arch

Simulations

When designing the optimal drying solution for your specific case we will study existing references and compare the different options including drying simulations which evaluate the evolution of temperature & dryness of the base paper or board and of the coating along the drying arch.

TRIALS

In addition, there is the possibility to make pilot trials in one of the pilot coaters equipped with our dryers or by using our trials hoods.

UniDryer®

The Ircon-Solaronics UniDryer® is a combined gas infrared and air drying system in which high drying performance gas infrared emitters are alternated with high temperature and velocity nozzles. The UniDryer® system benefits from a very high flexibility for the best product quality.

DryMaster™

The Ircon-Solaronics DryMaster™ is the newest shortwave electric Infra-Red dryer development. It allows advanced, quick and precise drying control, higher drying loads and high efficiency. These features provide improved production and quality of paper and board.

FoilMaster™

Ircon-Solaronics air dryers offer excellent efficiency combined with uniform heat transfer and optimal web support. We offer impingement and floatation nozzles, depending on your process requirements.

TurnBooster™

The TurnBooster™ air drying hood offers an ideal solution for a compact layout by being able to simultanously turn the web while continuing to dry the coating applied just before.

CoolMaster™

Solution for reducing web temperature after drying.

GemDryer®

Ircon-Solaronics GemDryer® is a gas infrared non-contact drying system consisting of high performance Gem emitters and Coanda blowing nozzles. This unique combination delivers optimal energy efficiency.

Coat Drying

Our coat drying systems ensure fast, contactless drying to stabilize coatings, avoid defects, and preserve print quality across all coated paper and board grades.

Size Press Drying

Our size press drying solutions remove surface moisture quickly and gently, helping restore sheet strength, prevent web breaks, and boost production speed.

Moisture Profiling

Infrared profiling technology enables real-time cross-direction moisture control to improve flatness, reducing curl and mottling, and increasing reel and calender quality.

Boost of Production Capacity

Targeted drying upgrades help eliminate bottlenecks, increase evaporation, and boost line speed and capacity – without compromising quality or needing full rebuilds.

Edge Drying

Infrared edge drying stabilises sheet edges during high-speed runs, helping to prevent edge cracks, improve web handling, and increase the overall production capacity.

Energy Savings

We work actively to optimize energy use through emitter upgrades, dryer replacements, ERS systems and more – cutting consumption without compromising quality.
