Trials

Our solutions for trials

Run trials on new setups, coatings, and configurations in a controlled environment.

Trials in real conditions to validate solutions before implementation.

We offer trial setups across industrial segments – whether in our workshops, at your production site, or in collaboration with pilot facilities. Trials let you validate drying performance, test different emitter types and power levels, and identify the best configuration for your product and process. It’s a way to de-risk decisions, speed up development, and move forward with confidence.

In-House Testing

Most new applications for IR drying need to be qualified and tested in some way. The behaviour of new applications may differ and some may be better suited for the wavelengths typical for electrical IR, while other may be better suited for gas IR or air drying.

At our workshops in Trollhättan or Armentières, it is possible to carry out certain preliminary tests on different types of test equipment. As part of the testing programme, we can vary the power heating time and the type of IR lamp or gas emitters or air nozzles.

Different types of modules or emitters can generate varying amounts of energy at different radiation wavelengths and this can have an effect on the heating result.

On-Site Testing

Ircon-Solaronics has a total of 40 different types of trial hoods (gas and electrical infrared) to meet the needs of most its customers. The systems installed can be installed for example in paper and coating machines to provide proof of moisture removal or to document other process parameters. We have organized successfully testing in different industrial sectors up to 4 m width.

Pilot Coating

Pilot coating is the step between lab testing and full production –used to trial coatings, substrates, and drying setups under realistic conditions. These tests help fine-tune process parameters and evaluate dryer performance before scaling up.

Styron Pilot Coater, Switzerland

This high-speed pilot coater is equipped with eight Ircon-Solaronics electric IR dryers – both Infradry and Itronic – installed at key positions to support various coating types. With a top speed of 3000 m/min and individually adjustable power settings, it enables precise testing under near-industrial conditions.

UMV Coating Systems Pilot Coater

The UMV Coating Systems pilot coater operates at speeds up to 2200 m/min and is equipped with 15 of our electric infrared frames across two locations. Used for UMV customer trials, it provides a high-speed platform to test IR setups under production-like conditions with precision.

Testing at RISE

In collaboration with RISE, we support food industry clients in testing new heating and drying methods. At their Gothenburg site, flexible infrared and microwave pilot ovens are available for a wide range of trials – from baking to drying. Many units are mobile, allowing tests to be run either on-site or at your own facility, giving you clear, practical results tailored to your product.

Testing at Micvac

In collaboration with Micvac, we support testing of microwave-based heating for ready-to-eat meals. At their Gothenburg facility, trials are conducted to evaluate heating consistency, packaging performance, and process efficiency – helping you refine your solution before scaling up.
